Embed Images in Models
ADOIT provides two methods for embedding images in your models:
Simply drag an image from your computer into the graphical editor, and a Note showing the image will be instantly created. This method is perfect when you need to insert a custom image into a single model.
For ArchiMate elements, you can upload an image in the element’s properties. This image will replace the standard representation and appear across all models where the element is reused, providing a consistent visual experience.
The file types which are allowed for import in the database and the maximum file size can be configured in the ADOIT Administration.
Upload Model-Specific Image
There are several ways to insert a custom image into a single model:
Drag Image to Graphical Editor
To create a new image:
Open a model.
Drag an image from your computer to the drawing area.
A new object of the class Note is added to the model. The image is displayed in place of this object in the graphical editor. The imported file is referenced in the Notebook of the new object in the attribute Image (Upload or URL).
Upload Image in Notebook
If you have already created a Note in which you want to reference the image, you can proceed as follows:
Open the Notebook of the Note. Switch to the Notebook chapter Representation.
Click the Attach file icon in the attribute Image (Upload or URL).
Select a file from your file system and confirm. The file is uploaded.
The image is displayed in place of the Note in the graphical editor.
Upload Image for Multi-Model Use
You can upload an image that will replace the standard representation of an ArchiMate element and appear across all models where the element is reused. To do this:
Open the Notebook of the ArchiMate element from the Object Catalogue. This ensures you are working with the global attribute values, which need to be updated.
Switch to the Notebook chapter Representation.
Under Visualisation options - external graphic, click the Attach file icon in the attribute Image (Upload or URL).
Select a file from your file system and confirm. The file is uploaded.
Adjust Image
To adjust how the image appears in a specific model, open the Notebook of the ArchiMate element in the graphical editor to access the model-specific attribute values. The following options are available in the Representation chapter.
To show or hide the image in a model:
Visualisation options - external graphic > Show image
Enables or disables the display of the uploaded image, reverting to the standard representation when turned off in the model context.
Visualisation options - external graphic > Show image as thumbnail
Available only when Show image is activated, this option lets you display the image as a thumbnail alongside the element.
To customise the image appearance:
Color
Uploaded images may display with a background color by default. To display the image with a white background, set Color to white (#FFFFFF).
Show icon
ArchiMate elements show an icon representing the element type in the upper right corner by default. To remove the icon, clear the Show icon check box.
Make Images Available in Different Language Versions
When you add a new image, it is displayed in all languages. To make available a different image in another language version:
Open the Notebook of the Note or ArchiMate element which contains the image you want to replace. Switch to the Notebook chapter Representation.
Replace the referenced image via the Attach file icon in the attribute Image (Upload or URL).
To download an image:
Open the Notebook of the Note or ArchiMate element which contains the referenced image. Switch to the Notebook chapter Representation.
Now do one of the following:
In read mode, click the link to the image in the attribute Image (Upload or URL).
In edit mode, click the Download attachment icon in the attribute Image (Upload or URL).
Delete Image
The Delete command allows you to delete an object which contains the referenced image.
If you just want to delete the image but keep the object:
Open the Notebook of the Note or ArchiMate element which contains the referenced image. Switch to the Notebook chapter Representation.
Click the Remove attachment icon in the attribute Image (Upload or URL). The image is deleted.
