Process Stepper

The process stepper is a tool which uses step-by-step analysis allowing you to better understand how a process and single process paths perform.

You can either make the process stepper progress through the steps automatically or advance from step to step manually. When you reach the end of the process, you can view the results to understand the costs and times involved. For further analysis, the results can also be exported as an Excel file.

Wskazówka

The process stepper can be started without any preparations. If times and costs are defined for a process, the results contain more detailed information (see Prepare Model for Simulation for details).

Wskazówka

The availability of this feature depends on the application library. All examples and descriptions in this chapter refer exclusively to the ADONIS BPMS Application Library.

Wskazówka

While the process stepper is particularly useful for "stepping through" individual process paths, you can use the process simulation component for in-depth analyses.

Start Process Stepper

To start the process stepper:

  1. Open the model in the graphical editor.

  2. Click the More button in the menu bar of the open model, point to Process analysis   , and then click Process stepper.

The "Process Stepper" widget opens at the right side of the program window.

Step through the Process

To step through the process, do one of the following:

  • To run the process stepper automatically, click the Play/Pause button .

  • To perform a step-by-step analysis, click the Forward button .

As the process stepper progresses through a process, active steps are highlighted on the drawing area. Numbers indicate how often a step is executed (useful for loops).

 Active Step

When passing an Exclusive gateway, you can determine the subsequent Sequence flow.

 Decision

When reaching a Subprocess, you can either step into the sub model or skip over the Subprocess.

Result Overview

In the "Process Stepper" widget, you can see overview information about the analysed process path based on the steps already performed. The number of tasks and decisions as well as the times and costs of the process path are shown. You can also see the description of the currently selected object.

Export Process Stepper Results

To export the process stepper results as an Excel file (XLSX format):

  • Click the Export button.

In the Excel spreadsheet, the number of tasks and decisions as well as the times and costs of the process path are shown on the first sheet. A separate Excel sheet lists the performed steps.
