Using the Process Drafter

This section will guide you through the essential steps for using the Process Drafter in ADONIS. Follow these instructions to access the tool, create process drafts, and submit them to ADONIS to automatically generate visual process models.

Open Process Drafter

To start using the Process Drafter in ADONIS:

  1. At the top right of the screen, click ADONIS apps icon ADONIS apps, and then select Process Drafter.

  2. Allow the Process Drafter access to your ADONIS resources if you are opening it for the first time.

Open Process Drafter

The start page ("Home") opens. If you’ve already created process drafts, they’ll be listed here. You can also create new drafts from this page.

Create process draft

To create a new process draft:

  1. Click Draft new process.

  2. Name your process: In the How would you call your new process? box, enter a meaningful name, and then click Next.

  3. Add a trigger – the starting point of the process:

    • Click Add a trigger to your process, and describe what starts the process.

    • Use passive phrasing, such as "Customer Order Received" or "Application Submitted".

    • In the graphical model, this will appear as a Start Event icon Start Event.

Add trigger

  1. Define the process steps – the tasks required to complete the process:

    • Click Add a step to your process, and enter the first task within the process.

    • Use Add new step icon Add new step to add more steps.

    • Focus on the happy path (the standard flow without exceptions).

    • Use active phrasing, like "Process Payment" or "Ship Order".

    • In the graphical process model, each step will appear as a Task icon Task.

  2. Optional: Add details to each step:

    • Assign a responsible role in the Responsible for execution box.

    • Link applications or IT systems in the Referenced applications/IT system elements box.

    • To add these elements, start typing the name, and then select the one you want from the repository when you see it.

    • If no match is found, ADONIS will offer to create a new element, like:

      • Manager (New "Role") – to create a new Role named Manager

      • Windows 11 ("New Application") – to add a new Application called Windows 11

Simply select the suggested entry to add the new element.

Add process steps

  1. Add an end result – the final outcome of the process:

    • Click Add the end result of your process, and then describe the process outcome.

    • Use passive phrasing, like 'Pizza delivered', 'Onboarding successfully completed' etc.

    • In the graphical model, this will appear as a End Event icon End Event.

Add result

  1. Save and submit your draft:

    • Click Save to keep the draft for further editing or review.

    • If you are done making edits, you can submit your process right away.

Adjust steps

While working on a process draft, you can rearrange steps, insert new ones before or after existing steps, or remove them as needed.

  • Change Order: Use the drag handle Drag handle icon to drag a step to a new position. Or, to the right of the step, click More icon More, and then click Move up or Move down.

  • Add a Step Before or After: To the right of an existing step, click More icon More, and then click Add step before or Add step after.

  • Remove Step: To the right of the step, click More icon More, and then click Remove.

Preview the process model

While working on your process draft, you can get a quick visual preview of your process model at any time. To open the preview:

  • Click the Preview tab at the bottom of the screen.

A panel slides up, displaying a live visual preview of your process model based on your current inputs (trigger, steps, and end result).

Preview the process model

To close the preview again:

  • Click the tab once more, and the panel will collapse back down.

Submit process draft

Once you are satisfied with your process draft, you can submit it:

  • From the process draft: Click Submit at the top right of the page.

  • From the start page: Click More icon More on the process draft tile, and then click Submit.

Regardless of how you submit your process draft, the Submit dialogue will open. Here's how to proceed:

  • Optionally, inform others:

    • In the Enter user name box, start typing the username or email address of a user, and then select the one you want when you see it. If the recipient is not a user or has no email address associated, you need to enter the full email address. Add additional recipients as needed.

    • In the Enter your message box, you can add a personal message if you want.

  • Click Submit to start the model creation process.

ADONIS will generate a process model in the background. Once complete, a success message will appear. You can draft a new process or return to the start page.

note

Once you submit your process draft, it can no longer be edited in the Process Drafter. To make further changes, you’ll need to open the submitted process in ADONIS.

Open in ADONIS

If a draft was submitted successfully, you can directly jump to the visual process model in ADONIS:

  • From the process draft: Click Open in ADONIS at the top right of the page.

  • From the start page: Click More icon More on the process draft tile, and then click Open in ADONIS.
